GF110 - 8-DAY WELSH LONGCASE CLOCK MERTHYR TYDFIL C1820

A very attractive painted dial long case clock with an arched 12" dial featuring floral detail to the corners, and a spray of flowers to the arch, and having Arabic numerals. A particular feature is the hour hand which bears a flying eagle cast into the design.

The dial is by Walker and Hughes, and looks to have been nicely restored at some time, bearing the signature of W Williams of Merthyr Tydfil in Wales. William Williams is recorded as working in the period 1822-1837.

The movement is of 8 day duration, with two heavy iron weights, and a pendulum with heavy brass bob. The whole is in good working order, and is housed in an oak case with swans neck pediment, canted and reeded corners to the case, reeded pillars to each side of the hood with moulded edge to the door.

The clock stands 82" high and is 19" wide at the maximum.

A super clock in lovely original condition, and in good working order.
