GF116 - LONDON LAQUERED CHINOISSERIE BRASS DIAL 8 DAY LONGCASE CLOCK

By Charles Pingstone (1720-1744) Stunning London longcase with brass dial having engraved sun in the arch and wheat-ear engraving to the border, ringed winding holes, seconds and date.

The 5 pillar movement strikes the hours on a bell, and runs for 8 days on a wind. The clock has its original brass pendulum, brass cased weights, and winding key. At some time the minute hand has been replaced.

The case stands 85" high.

The lacquered case is in sound condition with long door and working lock and key.

It is decorated with beautiful gold chinoiserie including pagodas, figures and trees throughout, and leaves and floral sprays round the hood. There is some slight loss in places, and the varnish has become discoloured. There are marks along the bottom front board.

Fabulous antique clock by a top quality London maker. Another example of a Pingstone clock with a musical movement was sold in Australia.
