GF090 - TAUNTON SILVERED DIAL 8-DAY MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK.
CHARLES SUTTON, TAUNTON (1804-1830)
A very original 8-day clock housed in a mahogany Somerset case of small proportions.
Charles Sutton worked in Fore Street, Taunton, and was apprenticed to Henry Foy of Taunton for 7 years in 1797.
The movement has a number of repair inscriptions and dates from other Taunton clockmakers. It has also been serviced and is in good working order, striking the hours on a bell.
The engraved and silvered dial with swags and scrolls with the original steel heart shaped hands.
The case has a caddy top and shell inlay to the door, and a history of the clock inside the door added by a previous owner.
The mahogany case has a fine colour and is also in original condition as is the dial.
A very attractive Somerset clock with a nice history.
