GF098 - ADAM AND EVE AUTOMATA - H MILLS, BRISTOL C1815




A rare Automata longcase clock featuring a depiction of Adam and Eve set against a background of wild animals.
The arms of the figures move with the ticking of the clock, showing Eve tempting Adam with the apple.
The 12" dial has been recently restored, with geometric and fan patterns to the corners and to the arch, arabic numerals, and subsidiary dials for date and seconds.
The movement is of 8 day duration with two iron weights and a pendulum with painted bob.
The oak case has a long door flanked by reeded pillars, fine stringing detail and shell inlay to the door.
A brass finial tops the break arch hood which as plain columns with brass capitals, and turned wooden paterea.
The whole clock stands 82" high, with a further 3" for the finial.
