BR022 - LARGE FRENCH ORNATE SEVRE FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK - C1875
A spectacular large French ormulu and Sevre porcelain figural clock in
exceptional condition.
The figures depict the progress of industry with the figure holding a
steam locomotive, and a depiction of cloth weaving machinery.
The clock has a beautiful enamelled dial with Roman numerals framed in
gold leaf, with floral decoration to the centre. The dial has some small
marks commensuarate with age, but no visible cracking or chips often
found on these clocks.
The centre Sevre panel has attractive detail of corn and harvesting
implements.
The case itself is in good condition with bright gilding with polished
edge features.
The movement is a Japy Freres et Ci French movement with a bell strike
and 8 day duration. It has its original brass pendulum and a winding key.
The clock sits on its original fabric covered shaped wooden base, and
also a wooden base bearing a Bath clockmakers label. There may have been
a dome, now absent.
