GF023 - ROBERT SUMMERHAYES, TAUNTON 1784-1857
30 hour painted dial longcase clock. Fully restored, and very original.

A nice example of a cottage clock by this fairly prolific local clockmaker, born in 1784 and married in 1805 he lived in Buckland St Mary and Coombe St Nicholas, and by 1816 he lived in Ilminster.
I have another of his Ilminster clocks listed for sale. After 1824 he moved to Taunton where he died.
He had a son also named Robert who followed his father into the clock making trade, hence the relatively large number of Summerhayes clocks in existence.
