GF039 - PRICE, WIVELISCOMBE - PEWTER DIAL LONGCASE CLOCK C1790

A country style West Country 30 hour long case clock with a rare painted 11" dial with pewter inlay in the corners.
Slim oak case with a caddy top measuring 79" high x 17" wide.
Unusual 'arrow' hands, secondary date wheel to the dial.
Case and movement original to each other.
Plated 30 hour movement striking the hours on a bell.
With lead weight, and pendulum with brass bob.

There are two clockmakers by the name of Price listed in Wiveliscombe. The first was Charles Price (1730-1795) who took an apprentice John Criddle in 1795 for 5 years, so he was presumably working until at least 1800. John Criddle later worked in Bridgwater.

Richard Price is listed as working in West Street from 1822-1839. I am inclined to believe that it was the earlier Chas Price who made this clock, from the style of the case, and the existence of other Pewter designed clocks which exist, which appear to have been made by Thos Pyke of Bridgwater.
