GF075 - ANTHONY LAWLEY, TAUNTON (1794-1851)

Another local Taunton clock which has been completely restored by us.
It is an 8-day painted dial longcase featuring a superb mahogany veneered case with inlays,
the trunk and hood doors flanked by ebonised reeded columns having corinthian capitals.
The hood of the clock is in the local 'wavy edge' style found on many Bristol and Somerset clocks.
The restored case has definite provenence, as it is signed on the reverse 'for Mr Lawley, Taunton, clockmaker'.
The dial has been prefessionally restored as the lettering was quite faded, and now looks bright and legible.

Anthony Lawley was born in Germany in 1794, apprenticed to make wooded clocks popular in that country.
By 1830 he was working in East Reach, and in 1871 at 171 Victoria Place.
