GF089 - THOS LAKE, TAUNTON (1793-1847)
Mahogany Cased 8-Day Brass Dial Longcase clock.
Very nice example of the work of this notable Taunton clockmaker who traded from 4 Fore Street, Taunton as a jeweller, clockmaker and optician.
His sons followed him into the business, and Thomes Lake also founded the first Gas company in the town in the early 1800's. He is recorded as maintaining St James's church clock in 1828 and 1830.
This clock is very original, having owned 2 other very similar examples, featuring a fine quality mahogany case with long door, a hood with caddy top, and removable carved pediment and finial.
The 12" square dial is nicely engraved, with a silvered chapter ring, original steel diamond hands, date and seconds.
Pendulum with brass bob and 2 iron weights.
The height of the clock is 80" (88" with top carving and finial).
