GF093 - LENDON, TAUNTON - ADAM AND EVE AUTOMATA

An interesting automata longcase clock by William Lendon of Taunton recorded as working 1818-1861, including 41 Fore Street, Taunton from 1822-1848 where he also traded as a silversmith. I woud date the clock to about 1820 when Arabic numerals were in fashion.
The 8-day movement has a 13" painted dial, with Arabic numerals, date wheel and seconds hand, and strikes the hours on a bell.
The arms of Adam and Eve move in time with the pendulum, and are set against a background of exotic animals.
The dial would benefit from restoration which I am planning to have carried out by an expert dial restorer, to bring out its true colours and detail.
The clock is housed in an ornate tall case which has been restored, and features a range of oak mahogany and fruitwood veneers and inlays.
A very unusual and interesting clock in good working order which will look superb in your home.
