GF122 - JAMES THRISTLE OF WILLITON - 8 DAY LONGCASE C1830
The Thristle family of clockmakers are one of the more well known and documented of the West Country clockmakers, based mainly in Stogursey near Bridgwater, however James (2) Thristle saw a business opportunity in Williton in 1823 when a previous clockmaker retired, and he set up a business which lasted for 50 years. He also extended his interests into property, jewellery and ship owning.
This particular clock is a fine 8 day example in original condition, with a mahogany veneered case, and a painted dial with country scenes to the arch and corners.
The dial has an unusual convex domed centre, steel hands, seconds hand and date wheel.
The case stands 90" high including the finials.
The attractive case has a lock to the trunk door, giving access to the pendulum with brass bob, and pair of lead weights.
