GF124 - JOSEPH HILL, BRISTOL, ROCKING SHIP AUTOMATA
A rare 'rocking ship' long case clock by this Bristol maker who was part of a noted family of clockmakers, and recorded as working at 7 The Parade from 1829-48.
The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell, and has Roman numerals, brass hands, a date aperture and seconds dial, the dial having a rocking ship and harbour scene in the arch, and painted cottage and castle scenes in the corners of the 13" dial, and signed Joseph Hill, Bristol.
The clock is housed in its original oak case which has canted corners to the base, fluted quarter columns to the trunk with door and lock, brass capitals to the columns of the hood which has swan neck pediment and brass ball finial.
Pendulum and two cast iron weights.
The height is 90".
